The nervous system regulates everything in the body: the muscles, organs, glands, hormones and immune system. The brain sends the message down the spinal cord and out through the network of nerves and controls all functions of the body.

If there is subluxation or misalignment with nerve tension in the spine, it can affect whatever organ, gland or system that nerve goes to. So for example, if the nerves going to the immune system aren’t working optimally, chiropractic can balance the nervous system and get the message from the brain to the body functioning as it should. When that takes place the body can heal and regulate the way it’s supposed to.

What You Eat Matters

Children and adults alike can help to thwart sickness by eating a diet that’s as healthy and nutritious as possible. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables as well as lean proteins and avoid sugar and anything processed such as white bread. If you can’t pronounce the ingredients, then don’t buy it.

Supplemental Support

Though young children usually don’t need supplements, once they start to get a little older we may recommend introducing some. These include an omega 3 fish oil (great for brain function), vitamin D and vitamin C. If a child is eating a healthy diet they usually don’t need to take supplements but if their diet isn’t at 100% of what it should be we can add ones in.

Just as kids need plenty of sleep, adults do too to help prevent sickness. Stress management is also critical as our immune system takes a beating when we’re under stress, whether it’s chemical, physical or emotional.
